Involuntary patients’ legal rights
You are admitted under section 22 of the Mental Health act if you are any age and a doctor or nurse practitioner is of the opinion that you meet four criteria for involuntary admission.
Patients admitted after parent/guardian request legal rights
You are admitted under section 20 of the Mental Health act if you are under 16 and your parent or guardian requested your admission. A doctor or nurse practitioner examined you and is of the opinion that you are a person with a mental disorder.
